3 Things You Need to do For Improved Height Safety

Want to improve safety when working at height? Here are three important things that you must do to remain safe and injury-free at work. Find out more today.

When working at height, whether you’ve done it hundreds of times or you’re newly trained, safety should always be a top priority. There are many risks that are associated with working at height such as slips, trips and falls, however, by following the right safety checks and using the right equipment you can minimise the chances of this happening.

Here are three important things needed for improving height safety.

           Check your surroundings

You can often avoid accidents at height by paying attention to your surroundings. For example, do you have the right weather conditions to be working at height? Is it too dark to see what you’re working on? Are there any trip hazards? An overall check of your surroundings can help you recognise these things before you start working.

           Always use height safety equipment

You should never start working at height without the right height safety equipment - even if you’re experienced. Safety line systems, handrails, fall arrest systems as well as essential PPE should always be used to eliminate risks and keep your team as safe as possible.

Work Boots will provide a strong sole and proper grip, a helmet will protect your head and face while work gloves will ensure that you can hold on to your climbing equipment. Using this equipment could be the difference between completing a job safely or experiencing a serious injury.

Know what you’re doing before you get up there

Do you have a plan of action for when you reach the top of the building? You must know what you’re doing as you may end up performing unnecessary jobs and putting yourself or others at risk. Consult with your team so you’re all on the same page.

Also, always ensure that your team is properly trained. Ask if they would like to go over anything beforehand and keep up with regular training.

The Benefits Of Roof Safety Lines

Each year, some of the most prominent causes of fatal injuries in the workplace are due to people falling from height, especially rooftops. Safety lines are designed especially to protect the user from accidental falls. Fixable to almost any structure, as well as being discrete and cost-effective, safety lines can quite literally be the difference between life and death.

Personal fall protection is a different form of collective fall protection, such as railings, which are always classified as active and don’t require the individual to be trained in order to use them. Safety lines are similar to harnesses in that the user will need training to make sure they are used as they should be. When used correctly, safety lines offer the user continuous hands-free access for all aspects of roof maintenance. Whether working on a commercial or domestic property, these systems allow the worker to carry out necessary tasks while minimising all potential risks.

           Vertical Safety Lines

Useful in situations where workers must climb up ladders or work on the side of buildings, as the name suggests, vertical safety lines are required in situations where individuals must be fixed parallel to a structure or building. Usually featuring a fall arrester, Vertical lifeline harnesses are connected via a vertically suspended flexible line.

Vertical fall protection systems can also regularly be located on masts, aerials and large towers, These are designed to protect the worker when accessing their work site, often during the time that the task is being carried out. The worker is connected to a cable or rail via a harness and lanyard and workers must undergo specific training on these systems before usage.

            Horizontal Safety Lines

Horizontal safety lines are most practical when there is a need to fix workers to an over-head line, allowing the individual to move hands-free and unobstructed without risk of falling. For facilities where it would otherwise be difficult to install conventional height safety measures like handrails, or within locations where this type of protection isn’t enough. Horizontal safety lines consist of a steel cable track that runs along the roof, fixed in place at multiple anchor points. This ensures secure, hands-free horizontal movement at height with assurances that the employee is safe at all times.

Horizontal safety line systems are particularly practical as you are able to hook and unhook the system with ease, as well as unhook the runner without taking the protective lanyard off. A horizontal system can be put in place for virtually all types of roofs and structures, offering an aesthetically pleasing yet discrete safety system. This type of system is commonly found on rooftops and attached to cranes, either cable-based or rail-based. The level of user understanding which is required to safely use a horizontal lifeline depends on the positioning of the lifeline on the roof. A lifeline track that follows the outline of the roof requires limited user knowledge. This way, those who are responsible for the safety of the system are less dependent on workers using the system as they should be.

, using mechanical fixings through the insulation down to the metal deck. The anchor system is installed during the time of the initial roofing construction, with components put in place with sealants to ensure waterproofing for both the system and the membrane underneath it. As one of the most popular measures within the working at heights industry, roof safety lines encompass any cable or linen system that secures a worker to a fixed structure to comply with health and safety standards.

           The Importance Of Rooftop Safety

When working from a height, safety is of course the most important factor regardless of the system that you’re working with. There are a few simple tips to keep in mind when working at height on a job. An initial risk assessment is crucial in preparing to work in a potentially dangerous situation, and is highly important when preparing for the work which will be taking place. Failing to prepare for these circumstances could be a very dangerous mistake to make. Correct personal protective equipment (PPE) should also be worn alongside the roof safety line most appropriate to the situation.

Owning the correct safety line isn’t an immediate problem-solver, with appropriate training also required to show individuals how this crucial equipment should be used. Training can ensure workers are aware of how to correctly use their safety equipment. It is absolutely essential that you use certified and approved equipment at all times, with A1 Height Safety placing an emphasis on quality, functionality, reliability and innovation.

Under the management of Stewart Linney, all our engineers are fully trained by Capital Safety and have had extensive training. We have invested extensively in equipment for the design, installation, testing and certification of height wire systems, fall arrest systems, safety line systems, harness anchor points and much more.
Do You Have a Rescue Plan in Place?

Falling from a height can be very scary but also extremely dangerous. If your workplace works at heights, you need to have a rescue plan in case of falls.

You and everyone you work with knows that using safety lines is a must, but what happens when someone falls? If they’ve correctly used their PPE, the employee will fall, but still stay relatively safe. But once the fall has occurred, do you have a rescue plan to get them back to the ground safely?

Every job is slightly different, so you’ll need a plan that is tailored to the place. Rescuing someone who is slipping down a roof can be quite different than trying to get to someone who is hanging 20 metres above the ground.

Understanding the Trauma of a Fall

Even if you’re using the right equipment, a fall can be terrifying. Many people panic or faint and some will go into shock. It’s a frightening event and one that no one really knows how they will react until it happens to them. It’s important to discuss the situation before it happens, while in training. Emphasis should be on staying calm while the rescue occurs.

There may also be physical injuries. People may hit something as they call or they could slide over a rough surface. The line itself can slow your fall, but it will still have an impact on your body. Just the shock of falling and hitting the end of the line is enough to shake you up. You may receive bruises, whiplash and sore muscles, depending on how far you fall and the position.

How to Rescue a Fallen Person

It’s important to get the fallen person down as quickly as possible to avoid health problems that may occur from hanging. Suspension trauma is a real thing and can be quite dangerous. This is where a plan will come in very useful. It saves time and could save a life.

If the worker cannot pull themselves to safety, other workers need to put the plan into action. If the situation is dangerous or if the worker has been injured in the fall, call emergency services and get to work on the plan.

Workers should be assigned to the situation. If possible, use a lift or ladder to reach a fallen worker and help them down. If the person is just off a roof or beam, other workers may go up onto the roof, using the appropriate gear and pull the fallen member of the team back up. Alternatively, you can guide them down the ladder to the ground. The situation needs to be assessed and a decision made for the fastest rescue. You don’t want to leave the person hanging up there too long.

Once the worker is down on the ground again, they should be assessed thoroughly. If there is any indication that they are suffering from an injury, the worker needs to be seen by a doctor.

Preventing falls is the first step to safety, but if you do have a fall, it’s important everyone knows what to do.

Safety Line Training: What You Need to Know

Improper use of safety lines in the workplace can lead to bad falls that cause injuries. It’s important that your team receive proper safety training.

It’s not enough to protect your workers with safety lines. They also need to be trained in how to use the lines correctly. Sending someone onto a roof without adequate instruction and testing can result in unnecessary falls and injuries.

           Inspecting Your Fall Protection Equipment

Check your fall protection equipment before each use. It should be inspected by a professional at least once a year, but every worker should take responsibility for looking at their gear before using it.

           Watch for:

           ● Fraying

           ● Rips or tears

           ● Loose buckles

           ● Stitching coming apart

           ● Improper knots

           ● Wear on any part

These can all be signs that your gear needs to be replaced and no equipment should be used if it could be faulty. It’s there to protect you, but if someone falls and a frayed rope snaps due to the weight, the end result could be fatal. Every worker must learn what to look for and how to check their equipment.

How to Put the Harness On

The harness must not only be put on correctly, but properly attached to the safety line. Again, each worker is responsible for checking their own harness and securing it. However, it’s also good practice to have a secondary person double check the harness and attachment. This helps reduce the margin for error and a second set of eyes may spot something the person wearing the harness cannot see.

Be sure to avoid any twisted bits on the harness. The straps should lay flat and be snug, but in the right position so that if you fall, the force is properly distributed.

Securely Attaching and Using the Safety Line

Workers must understand how to use their safety line once they’re in place on the roof or scaffolding. They should understand the importance of never being without a security method in place and will need to be trained in how to move their harness clip from one area to another without compromising their safety.

           Learn Special Features

Depending on the fall safety equipment, there may be different features that must be learned. The workers should have a full understanding of what each feature does and how to use it. You may even wish to practice falling a short distance so they can feel the impact and practice getting out of the situation.

Falling from a height can be devastating, so it’s important to use safety equipment. Unfortunately, improper use is nearly as bad as not using it, so be sure everyone working at a height is fully trained in how to properly engage their protective gear.

What is Mansafe System Testing and How is it Beneficial?

Safety should always be a priority. A1 Height Safety is here to help make your worksite safe with this guide to mansafe system testing and its benefits.

Anyone who works at height, or employs people who do, will most likely be familiar with mansafe systems. Falling from heights is one of the most common reasons for serious injuries or even fatalities within the construction industry. For this reason, a mansafe system is a necessity for any project that requires working at heights - for example, on rooftops.

Ensuring your mansafe system is regularly checked and maintained is just as important as having one in the first place. The only way you can be sure that your equipment is safe and fit for use is to have it inspected frequently. To help you put safety first on your worksite,

           What is a mansafe system?

‘Mansafe systems’ or ‘mansafe fall protection’ are systems designed to keep people safe whilst working at a height. This could consist of a single anchor fixing near a window, or a line system installed on a roof. Their purpose is to protect workers should a fall occur, or prevent the fall altogether.

There are two main types of mansafe system: fall restraint systems and fall arrest systems.

           Fall restraint systems

The aim of fall restraint systems is to prevent a fall from happening. Typically installed no further than two metres away from the fall hazard, the user connects themselves to the system using a suitable lanyard. This kind of mansafe system has been likened to toddler reins.

While fall restraint systems aren’t intended to suspend someone who has already fallen, they must be able to hold the weight of any given load in order to comply with regulations and provide extra safety, just in case.

           Fall arrest systems

With this kind of mansafe system, the user has already been exposed to a fall hazard. As with the fall restraint system, the user will be attached to the system using a lanyard. However, rather than preventing the fall itself, a fall arrest system prevents someone who has already fallen from coming into contact with the surface below them. It does this by arresting or suspending them in mid-air.

What does mansafe system testing involve?

All types of mansafe system need to be tested and inspected regularly to check for faults and to ensure that the system is fit for purpose. This also includes being examined prior to first use. The details of any inspections should be documented and retained for your records.

The inspections require a competent person to check the anchor strop and anchor device for signs of kinking, deformation, or corrosion and ensure that all components are correctly positioned and working. The system itself must comply with relevant ISO standards.

The person who carries out the inspection must have all the necessary training and be able to identify any potential faults and risks in accordance with British Standards. Accredited inspectors such as those here at A1 Height Safety are best equipped to help you remain compliant.

We recommend that you also check that all height safety signage and walkway signage is correct and in good working order - making people aware of hazards can reduce risk significantly, so it’s definitely worth implementing all possible safety measures.

How often should inspections be carried out?

The Work at Height Regulations 2005 (WAHR) stipulates that every employer or project manager must keep those working at height protected from falls. It’s your responsibility to ensure that you provide a safe working environment at all times, which includes providing your team with well-maintained mansafe systems, safety lines and relevant personal protective equipment.

A considerable part of this duty to your team is ensuring your equipment is deemed fit for use through regular checks. Mansafe systems should be examined thoroughly by a qualified inspector at least once every 12 months. This will ensure that you are complying with WAHR and, importantly, can minimise the risk of height-related accidents on your worksite.

As well as having your mansafe systems inspected and tested by a qualified professional, you should also incorporate basic examinations into your routine maintenance checks and check equipment whenever you think something may have affected its condition (e.g. adverse weather).

Identifying a problem early on could save a life, so it’s vitally important that you stay on top of all these inspections.

The importance of mansafe system testing

Mansafe system testing is a vital part of ensuring that your worksite is a safe place to be, as is taking the same precautions with other potential risks and hazards. There are countless reasons why making sure your mansafe system is fit for purpose will be beneficial to you, your employees, and your business as a whole. Here are a few of the main ones.

           Keeps employees safe

It goes without saying that safety is the most important reason for regular mansafe system testing. A 2020 report from the HSE revealed that falling from a height is still the top cause of death in the construction industry. As one of the most reliable fall protection solutions, installing and maintaining mansafe systems should reduce the risk of falling at all, and will certainly reduce the chances of serious injury or death occurring as a result of a fall.

They will be particularly effective if implemented alongside other safety measures such as proper planning of height-related tasks, walkway signage, height safety signage, guard rails, safety lines, only working at height when absolutely necessary, and so on.

Mansafe systems work by harnessing the worker to an anchor point while they carry out work at a height. Not only do these anchor devices absorb the shock of any falls, they also face a lot of pressure when being used as a preventative measure. This means that there will be wear and tear, or even severe deterioration in condition, regardless of whether they actually prevent a fall or protect someone who has already fallen. Regular testing and maintenance can help you avoid any devastating incidents on your worksite by ensuring the system does not fail when in operation.

           Cost effective

One of the hidden benefits of regular mansafe system testing is that it will most likely allow you to avoid any costly major maintenance work and is therefore very cost effective.

By identifying faults early with your routine checks and detailed inspections, you’ll be able to repair minor issues while they are still minor, rather than having to cough up a lot of money for a huge maintenance job or even an entirely new system. Repairing minor faults will also extend the lifespan of your equipment, making it a more worthwhile long-term investment.

           Compliance with regulations

By carrying out regular mansafe system testing and maintenance, you’ll be complying with all the relevant regulations and guidance and therefore won’t have to worry about the consequences of non-compliance. Potential risk to employees is just one of these consequences; there could also be serious legal repercussions if you fail to adhere to regulations.

To avoid facing legal action, make sure you carry out pre-use and interim inspections on a regular basis, and use a trained and trusted professional for the annual detailed inspections. Remember to record all relevant details too - this might be helpful if you have to prove compliance for any reason.

As an employer or project manager, it is your responsibility to ensure that all individuals who work at heights are also complying with guidance and regulations - for instance, by wearing the required personal protective equipment and using equipment in a safe and correct manner. It is not enough to just ensure the equipment itself is fit for purpose.

           Good for business

There are several business-related benefits of mansafe system testing. Regularly checking your equipment will enable you to identify any potential problems early, meaning you can carry out preventive maintenance rather than having to act retrospectively once something goes wrong. By noticing issues early, you can put measures in place to replace or repair damaged components before they get the chance to affect business.

With proper routine inspections and maintenance schedules in place, you can keep your equipment in operation and prevent any costly unplanned downtime due to unexpected equipment failure or a serious incident on your worksite.

Taking steps to ensure your equipment is fit for use can also boost business by earning it a good reputation. People will almost certainly be more inclined to hire your company if they can be confident that it is compliant with all legal requirements and is openly committed to putting safety first.

has recently acknowledged that the second most frequent type of unintentional injury deaths globally, following traffic accidents, are falls from heights. British regulations state that it’s the employer’s responsibility to ensure that their employees are safe when they’re working at heights and the best way to do this is to have fully-functioning mansafe systems. However, ensuring they work properly requires testing.

Mansafe systems are height safety devices that connect the user to a fall arrest system. These help reduce the risk of injury associated with a fall by decelerating your body which limits the forces exerting on it, as well as preventing you from colliding into the ground or any structures below. Because height safety is so important, there is a type of fall arrest system for every situation. For example, those working in manholes and confined spaces will opt to use a tripod or davit overhang system whereas those working on transformers or platforms will use a portable fall arrest post.

Why is Mansafe System Testing Needed?

Even though there are many different types of mansafe systems, they’re all to be tested annually under The Work at Height Regulations 2005. This is in addition to regular maintenance checks and semi-regular interim inspections, the frequency of which depends on how often the fall arrest system is used. However, this annual test is more thorough and extensive than these maintenance checks and they’re important for many reasons:

           Preventable

The first reason mansafe systems need to be tested regularly in this way is that falls from heights are a very preventable type of accident. The measures required to reduce the number of falls from heights are simple, non-obstructive and fairly inexpensive. Yet, they’re only effective if they’re maintained properly and unfortunately it only takes one minor fault to cost a life.

           Insurance and Lawsuits

Even though mansafe system testing has an upfront cost, this pales in comparison to what some companies end up paying employees who sustained injuries at work. If an employee does have a fall and sustains a serious injury, your insurance will go up and the employee may wish to pursue a lawsuit. If your mansafe system hasn’t been inspected properly and is shown to be faulty then this can be detrimental to your business.

           Integrity

A key benefit of undergoing mansafe system testing is that any issue, no matter how big or small, can be addressed at a much earlier stage before it develops into a problem that requires more time and money to fix. Along this vein, all of your equipment will be working much more efficiently and will require repairs less frequently, making mansafe system testing a cost-effective option in the long run.

Which Heights Require Safety Equipment?

Are you going to be working from a height? Invest in the right safety lines today and keep your project as safe as possible. Find out more from A1 Height Safety.

You know that safety is imperative when working on a roof, but at what height does safety equipment become necessary? Can you safely work a few feet off the ground without protection or do you need it the second your feet leave the ground? In the UK alone, there are nearly 70,000 falls every year while at work. Not all of these falls are at a height, but it is certainly one of the biggest risk factors in major injuries.

It’s essential that anyone working at a height take care to protect themselves so here are some of the safety equipment that you may need.

            When to Use Safety Equipment

Any time you are working on a surface that you could fall through, such as glass or another type of material, you are working at a height. This also applies to any time you are working on a roof or ladder, as these are obviously heights. While there’s not actually a specific measurement included in the law, it is determined that you must take precautions when you are working at a height. If there is any danger of falling into a hole or similar in the ground, safety procedures are required.

How to Stay Safe When Working at a Height

It can be difficult to maintain your safety when you are working on a ladder or roof, but there are ways to do it. First, you need to ensure that it’s actually necessary for you to be off the ground. If possible, conduct the task from the ground to avoid any danger of falling. However, if you do need to be working with a distance between you and the ground or the bottom of a tube, tunnel, etc then you should be safe.

There are multiple options for height safety, most of which involve stopping or slowing your fall to ensure you survive. These may include safety harnesses, safety lines, walkway lines, and horizontal lines to keep you from falling at any height.

It’s also essential that you inspect all safety equipment before using it. It’s useless to you if it’s already worn out or nearly broken. In fact, this can put you in more danger, as you’ll be relying on a faulty piece of equipment. Everything should be repaired when needed, but also carefully inspected before each use. This helps ensure you stay safe.

Many jobs require taking risks while working, but this does not mean you are required to take unsafe measures. By using the correct equipment while you work at a height, you can reduce the risk of injury and ensure the job is done well, without fearing for your life.

Five Things to Know About Working From Height Safety

When working from a great height it is integral that you ensure safety standards are being followed. Here are five things to consider.

When working from a height, safety is the most important thing that you need to be thinking about. With that in mind, there are a few simple things you can bear in mind when you're next working at height on a job. Here is what you need to know.

            Oversee the risks involved

As with lots of work scenarios that involve risk, a risk assessment is going to be required and help you in preparing to work in a potentially harmful situation. This assessment is crucial in preparing for the work which will be taking place and can help highlight any areas of concern or potential risks. This process is going to help you to either lower the risks involved or eliminate them all together.

            Preparation is key

There are certain steps that need to be taken in order to prevent an accident from taking place when an individual is working from height. Failing to prepare for these circumstances is a rookie mistake and ultimately, very dangerous. This level of preparation includes supplying the necessary emergency rescue equipment.

            Safety Equipment

So that you are making sure that you are safeguarding yourself from falling as much as feasibly possible, it’s crucial that the right equipment is used at all times. You will require the correct PPE, this the only thing between you and hitting the ground in the unfortunate event of a fall.

It’s crucial to know that not every piece of fall protection equipment is used for the same thing and some protection measures will be more appropriate for a job than certain others, for example you may require overhead and horizontal safety lines. You also need to factor in how many people will be working at height on the job.

Ensure you know how to use your equipment

Sometimes accidents can happen because people are unsure of how to correctly use their safety equipment. For example, there may be pieces that they do not know how to fasten or sections installed incorrectly. It is crucial that you make sure this is not the case.

As a matter of safety, it is absolutely essential that you use equipment that has been certified and approved by international standards for safety and quality. This could ultimately be a factor that saves someone's life.

How to Safely Work on a Roof

Health and safety is vital in any workplace, but particularly if the work carries greater risks. Working on a roof can be very hazardous as it involves working at height and falls from roofs account for 24% of all construction falls.

It’s essential that the right precautions and equipment are in place for anyone working on a roof, even if the job is relatively short. Employers also have a responsibility to comply with the Work at Height Regulations 2005, so see below for some top tips for working safely on a roof.

           Ensure safe access

Roof safety starts with ensuring safe access for any employees working on the roof. Access methods should always be planned in advance in line with the Work at Height Regulations 2005. Common methods to access roofs include scaffold towers, mobile access platforms, stair towers, ladders and roof access hatches. Any access equipment should always be inspected before use to ensure that it’s safe.

           Beware of fragile surfaces

A roof might look strong and sturdy but it’s impossible to tell its weight bearing capacities by sight alone. Sheet roofs can be particularly vulnerable so always take extra precautions when working on this fragile surface. Workers should also take extra care to look out for roof lights as these can be a particular hazard. If any are identified, always ensure they are blocked off or clearly marked.

           Have the right PPE

The right personal protective equipment (PPE) is essential for anyone working on a roof. This includes fall restraint or fall arrest systems, protective footwear, safety helmets, high visibility clothing and safety goggles. PPE for each individual should always be combined with more general protective equipment, such as guard rails and safety nets.

            Proper training

It’s vital to ensure that anyone working on a roof is fully trained and competent to do so. This includes proper training in the installation and use of safety measures and knowledge of the risks associated with working at height. All employees should be aware of how to keep themselves safe and how to reduce the risk to others.

Working at Height: Three Essential Safety Items

If you work in construction, maintenance or a similar profession then working at height is often an essential part of your day to day job.

If you work in construction, maintenance or a similar profession then working at height is often an essential part of your day to day job. But, before you and your team can get to work you must have the right safety precautions in place including the right workwear and practical structures on the building itself.

Here is some of the top safety gear that will prevent falls and personal injuries.

           Safety lines

When accessing a building it’s very dangerous to simply climb up without being attached to a safety line as this puts you at risk of falling. Working on roofs is undoubtedly a high-risk activity but with the installation of safety walkways, safety lines and vertical safety systems, you can have peace of mind that your personal protection has been protected.

           Workboots

You need to have a good grip when you’re working off the ground so investing in workboots is essential. Trainers do not provide the extra stability you need, but workboots that have a strong sole and fit comfortably will be comfortable enough to wear all day and keep you protected. Steel capped boots are also an option to consider as they will shield your toes from any falling objects once you’re on the ground.

           Gloves

As well as the importance of good footwear, gloves are also an important piece of safety gear. When working at height you are likely to be using tools but they shouldn’t affect your ability to stay safe and hold on to your climbing equipment. PPE gloves will ensure that your hands do not become slippy or cut so your safety is not compromised.

How to Work Safely With Scaffolding

Employee safety is vital when working at height, so discover how to stay safe when working with scaffolding, including the right PPE and site preparation.

Scaffolding is incredibly versatile and used for a number of building and construction projects, including repairs, roof work, building construction and cleaning. However, when it comes to working at height, safety should always be the number one concern and there is potential for accident and injury if proper protocols aren’t followed.

There are many different steps you can take to ensure you’re working safely with scaffolding and these precautions are essential to keep employees safe. If you’ve got an upcoming project that involves working at height, see below for our top tips to stay safe when working with scaffolding.

           Prepare the site

Safe scaffolding starts with a secure base, so thoroughly inspect the site for any dips, slopes or uneven ground. Think about the surrounding area too; are there any wires or other obstructions which could compromise safety? Never rush a job - take the time to properly secure all bases and make sure they’re levelled and adjusted.

           Regular maintenance and inspection

Thoroughly inspect all materials for any defects or damage before erecting your scaffolding. Look out for any mismatched parts too, as this can cause major safety issues once the scaffolding is built. Once the scaffolding is up, inspect the area at the start of each work day for any debris, hazards, loose parts or other issues which could compromise safety.

           Wear the right PPE

The right personal protective equipment (PPE) is absolutely essential to help prevent falls and injuries. All employees should be equipped with hard hats, non-slip boots and thick gloves to protect against cuts. Any scaffold workers should also be fully trained in the use of safety lines and fall arrest systems. This equipment works to prevent falls or guard against injury and fatalities if a fall does occur.

           Check the weather

A safe working environment is vital when working at height, so consider delaying scaffolding work during periods of harsh weather. Strong winds and heavy rain can make the scaffolding unsafe and you should also inspect the boards after a night of rain, ice, or snow. If the scaffolding boards are icy or slippery underfoot, delay work until the afternoon or following day.

What PPE Do You Need to Work Safely at Height?

Safety is vital when working at height, so find out more about the different types of PPE, including the right clothing and fall arrest systems.

Safety is important in any workplace, but especially when working at height. There are many different jobs and industries that require working at height, including building and construction, roofing services, painting and decorating and window cleaning.

The right personal protective equipment (PPE) is essential to protect any employees working at height and to ensure the job is completed safely and efficiently. If you’re completing a job at height or want to know more about your PPE options, see below for a range of systems to enable safe work at height.

           Work restraint systems

These systems prevent workers from accessing an area where a fall might occur. They feature a belt or harness, a lanyard of limited length and a connector hook that can be anchored somewhere secure. Restraint systems are easy to use and protect workers from reaching hazardous areas like the edge of a roof.

           Fall arrest systems

Fall arrest equipment helps to protect the worker if a fall should occur and they’re often used as a backup alongside additional PPE and equipment like guard rails and nets. Fall arrest systems use a full body harness and an energy-absorbing lanyard attached via a hook to an anchorage point. If a worker does slip or fall, the fall arrest system ensures the fall is stopped before they hit a surface.

           Horizontal lifelines

These systems use a rope made from synthetic fibre or wire which is harnessed to a steel cable track at multiple anchor points. Horizontal lifelines can be used for almost all types of roofs and structures and employees can move about freely and safely while connected to the cable track.

The continuous track means that workers don’t have to detach from the line and these systems are suitable for jobs where a barely visible fall protection solution is required.

Employees should avoid wearing anything too loose when working at height, to prevent snagging. An all in one coverall can ensure any loose clothing is enclosed, plus a high-vis vest or jacket for added safety. Other standard PPE includes a helmet, eye protection, non-slip footwear and protective gloves.

The Importance of Mansafe System Testing

Learn more about the importance of mansafe system testing and the regulations governing safety line inspections with our helpful guide.

If you or your employees work at height, then you will almost certainly be used to operating mansafe systems. These horizontal safety line systems are designed and fitted to prevent contractors from falling from a height, which is one of the most common reasons for serious and fatal injuries within the construction industry. This makes mansafe systems one of the most important pieces of equipment for any application that requires people to work on rooftops or other multi-storey platforms.

Fitting a mansafe system is one crucial task, but making sure the equipment is inspected and maintained regularly is another essential part of keeping yourself and your employees safe. Here’s why

           mansafe system testing

is so important and what you need to know to stay compliant with the appropriate standards and regulations.

What does mansafe system testing include?

Under BS 795:2012, all mansafe systems must be subjected to pre-use inspections, interim inspections and detailed inspections. During these examinations, a competent person must check over the anchor device and anchor strop to ensure there are no signs of deformation, corrosion or kinking. Every component must be positioned correctly and must comply with the appropriate ISO standards.

You also need to make sure that inspections are conducted by someone who has had the correct training and is well-equipped to identify potential risks according to the appropriate British Standards. The details of these inspections will need to be recorded and kept on file, so make sure you work with accredited inspectors (such as the team at A1 Height Safety) who will help you remain compliant.

How often are safety line inspections required?

Employers are advised to make sure all fall arrest systems are examined thoroughly by trained inspectors at least once a year. This will not only minimise the risk of height-related accidents but also keep you compliant under The Work at Height Regulations 2005 (WAHR).

As stated by the WAHR, every employer (or anyone responsible for managing a project that requires working at height) must keep their employees safe against falling from any platform. Whether you manage a team of roof maintenance workers or solar panel installation contractors, you are responsible for ensuring a safe working environment at all times. This includes making sure all employees have access to a well-maintained roof safety line system, mansafe system and the relevant personal protective equipment (PPE) to get the job done securely.

In addition to scheduling annual mansafe system testing, all employers managing work at height projects must make regular visual inspections part of their maintenance routine.

This includes making sure that all fall arrest systems are checked over by a competent person before they are first used. Following this, all equipment must be subject to interim inspections (the frequency of interim inspections will depend on how often the system is used) and must be checked over thoroughly after any circumstances that might affect its performance. For instance, you must inspect every fall arrest system following a fall or adverse weather conditions, such as a storm.

Why is mansafe testing so important?

Checking the integrity of any fall arrest system regularly is a key part of managing a safe and successful working at height project. Here’s why you need to prioritise mansafe system testing and why it’s important to find an accredited fall arrest system inspection manager.

           Employee safety

Of course, the most important reason to keep up to date with mansafe system testing is to keep your employees safe. As one of the most reliable and efficient personal fall protection solutions, they should be used whenever working at height is unavoidable and must be maintained to the highest possible standards.

They are designed to prevent workers from falling from a height and work by harnessing the individual to a bolted roofline system. If a worker slips, the arrest system will engage to stop them from falling. It will also absorb the shock of the fall to prevent the risk of impact-related injuries.

After every use, the pressure put upon the anchor devices and strops can contribute to wear and tear and severe deterioration. Regular testing and maintenance could prevent fraying rope or deformed eye bolts from causing the fall arrest system to fail when in operation.

The importance of well-maintained fall protection equipment cannot be understated. The Health and Safety Executive recently released its

In addition to keeping your employees safe, testing your fall arrest systems regularly will also help to protect you against the legal consequences of breaking WAHR. As an employer or company’s dedicated competent person, it is your responsibility to make sure all contractors are adhering to the regulations set out by HSE guidance for working at height, including wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment and using fall protection systems correctly.

Keeping your contractors safe is more than just good business practice; if you fail to comply with the regulations, you could find yourself facing serious legal action. To avoid this, make sure you conduct pre-use and interim examinations frequently and hire a trained professional to carry out a detailed inspection at least once a year.

There are also many business and financial incentives for testing your mansafe systems regularly. After all, the more you inspect fall protection equipment, the quicker you can act if you notice the signs of wear and tear. Checking the condition of your equipment before and after use will help you become accustomed to what a structurally sound system looks like and recognise when repairs need to be made.

This will benefit your company significantly in two major ways. Firstly, you can proactively avoid business downtime as a result of faulty equipment. Instead of waiting until your next detailed inspection to find out that you need new equipment, you can put measures in place to replace the damaged components before your next big project.

Secondly, regular equipment maintenance will save you money in the long-term. By acting quickly to identify and repair the faulty components within an overused system, you can expand the lifespan of your fall protection equipment and avoid replacing entire safety lines.

Fall Arrest vs Fall Restraint: What’s The Difference?

Learn the differences between fall arrest safety systems and fall restraint safety systems here.

Working at height can be very dangerous and therefore it’s important you provide your workers with the very best height safety equipment. If you can’t avoid working at height in certain situations, it’s important you have a fall protection safety system in place - and it’s also important that you’re fully clued up on the options available.

Fall arrest and fall restraint safety systems are very similar, but there is a huge difference between the two. To put it simply, fall restraint systems prevent you from falling and fall arrest systems protect you after you fall, helping to stop the fall before you hit the surface.

Below, we take a look at fall arrest and fall restraint systems in a bit more detail and how they can help to protect your employees when working at height.

           Fall Restraint Systems

A fall restraint safety system prevents you from falling using a body holding device connected to an anchor. This prevents you from reaching zones where the risk of fall exists. Essentially, the safety system keeps you from getting close enough to the fall hazard to fall - just think of a leash keeping you within a safe distance from the high edge. This ensures your employees can work freely and safely without worrying about injuring themselves or falling from height.

Typically, fall restraint systems are easier and simpler to use than fall arrest systems and therefore they’re more commonly used. This is mainly due to restricted free fall distances (such as low building height or vehicles below which can reduce the available height to have the fall arrested safely), meaning a restraint system is often the most sensible choice.

            Fall Arrest Systems

Fall arrest systems protect you after you fall. A fall arrest system typically includes an anchor point or a series of anchor points, a safety lanyard or self-retracting lifeline and a harness. The system is designed to stop you before you hit a lower surface, minimising the chance of any injuries and limiting the forces on the body. Fall arrest systems give your employees the freedom to work safely and walk all the way up to a fall hazard to do their work - and if they fall, the system in place ensures they’re protected.

Fall arrest systems are most suitable for people working near a fragile service or on a building with an unusual roof shape. If there’s a good chance you may fall off the building, a fall arrest system is a suitable option to buffer the fall and minimise contact with the ground.

Three Myths About Working At Height

Debunk these three myths about working at height with our experts.

When working from height, it’s important you take the correct safety precautions and ensure all of the right measures are put in place. It’s crucial the right regulations are always followed by personnel when working at height or in hazardous environments, and it’s important that everyone knows exactly how to work all of the correct equipment.

At A1 Height Safety, our experienced team is dedicated to ensuring you and your team can work safely while at height. To help you, our experts have debunked three myths about working at height below.

You don’t need fall protection equipment if it’s just a quick job

You always need fall protection equipment. No matter how long the job is or how short the task is, you are always required to ensure compliant fall protection equipment when working at height. Fall protection equipment, including PPE, saves the lives of workers and helps to prevent life-changing injuries should anyone slip or fall when working at height.

If your PPE was inspected last week, you don’t need to check it again

When using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for working at height, the equipment should always be checked beforehand, even if it was only checked recently. The equipment should be visually inspected for any signs of damage or deterioration and the equipment should not be used by anyone on site until it has been inspected and marked as compliant by a trained specialist.

Injuries can be minimised by reacting quickly to a fall

Lots of people think that injuries from falls can be minimised if they react quickly to a fall. However, this is not true; in fact, it’s very rare that people can react quickly to a fall. It takes approximately six metres before your brain is even fully aware that you’ve fallen - and by that time, it’s pretty much physically impossible to stop your fall or minimise any injuries. Wearing the correct fall protection equipment will ensure you stay safe while working at height and help to prevent you from falling.

If you’re looking for a company to provide you with high-quality height safety equipment, look no further than A1 Height Safety.
Horizontal and Vertical Safety Lines: What is the Difference?

You may be wondering what the difference is between a horizontal fall and a vertical fall?

Working from a height can be a dangerous task, with the risk of taking a terrifying fall and ever-present danger possible. What’s more, having the crucial assurance that your life is going to be in safe hands is an essential part of your job with a lack of precaution being a deadly consequence. Thankfully though, there is a range of safety solutions to help keep you protected whilst working at height.

Safe, sound and secure, our range of safety lines are created with safety in mind to leave you feeling stress-free, permitting you to focus on the task at hand.

Although it might seem obvious, it’s crucial that you realise the difference between horizontal and vertical falls, and how to suitably protect against them happening. Horizontal falls typically occur where individuals trip while working, standing, or moving on a single level.

On the contrary, a vertical fall will typically happen when an individual falls from one level to another, such as from a telecommunications tower to the ground.

           Protecting Against a Horizontal Fall

Protecting yourself against a horizontal fall frequently includes a horizontal lifeline harness and a horizontal lifeline subsystem. The lifeline is comprised of a flexible line which is suspended and connected or secured horizontally to anchorages. A horizontal lifeline subsystem features an energy-absorbing component and a lifeline tension.

The protection system is attached to anchorages at the same elevation. Horizontal work typically utilises three attachments including two anchorages on the structure – at the same elevation – and one attached to the worker.

           Protecting Against a Vertical Fall

In a similar vein to horizontal fall protection, a vertical lifeline harness comes with a component of a lifeline subsystem linked via a vertically suspended flexible line. Vertical fall systems also come with a fall arrester. Vertical jobs frequently require only two attachments: one attached to the structure being climbed, and one to the person. While vertical fall systems save the lives of lots of workers, it’s crucial to train your staff on the crucial nature of vertical fall rescue, as there is often a small window of time prior to a suspended worker faces severe injury or death due to suspension trauma if not rescued fast.

The Benefits of Using Horizontal Safety Lines

Horizontal safety lines are an essential part of personal fall protection and must be used appropriately.

One of the main causes of fatal injuries and even death in the workplace each year is due to people falling from height, especially from roofs. To make sure you have optimum safety when working on a roof and to maintain your employees welfare at all times, you need the commitment of all those involved to ensure that correct fall protection measures are being used.

Personal fall protection equipment must always be implemented. With this in mind, here are some of the many benefits of using horizontal safety lines for your business.

           Horizontal safety lines

Horizontal safety lines decrease the likelihood of falls from height. They are a cost-effective, ideal solution should working at height be unavoidable and guarding not achievable. The system is often designed for 2-3 users at any one time and needs more advanced training on working at height and PPE. Fall arrest systems will require suitable rescue plans as well as the necessary rescue training.

           Hands-free

These systems can be fixed to pretty much any kind of roof or structures and also offer you a discrete and attractive solution where collective measures are not suitable.

Horizontal safety line systems offer you continuous hands-free access for all aspects of roof inspection and maintenance. They are required by law that this system is inspected and certified every year as a minimum along with any associated PPE equipment.

            Safety

If you or your workers are carrying out work on a building site without preinstalled collective edge protection such as guardrails or scaffolding, this could ultimately be fatal. Should a fall take place, the safety line will prevent or reduce the likelihood of a more serious injury, or possibly death. It is important to remember that a horizontal safety line should not be your first choice for protection, but it is still a crucial piece of equipment and a preventative measure. The hierarchy of control’s emphasis on collective edge protection over personal means you should consider putting permanent edge protection in place. You must also have an adequate rescue plan with trained operatives in place when using safety lines.

           Fall restraint

When a building has enough sufficient space and has a roof that can sustain someone walking on top of a flat surface, horizontal safety lines are recommended by industry experts. These systems operate with a lanyard attached to the safety line on one side of the wire rope, with the other side attached to a harness worn by a qualified Working at Height professional. This permits personnel to walk alongside the safety line and carry out any maintenance, installation or other tasks while also avoiding a fall. These systems are certainly adaptable and have variations for different types of roofs, such as flat, metal deck or standing seam roof solutions.

           Horizontal fall arrest

Much like a fall restraint system, this solution consists of a short wire rope with one end attached to an anchor post or safety line via a lanyard and the other side attached to a harness. The rope tends to be short, and this is because it is designed to stop personnel from falling off a building, but unlike a vertical fall arrest, the system is often parallel with the legs of the Work at Height operative using it, as opposed to being above them. These systems are good for working on pitched roofs or other areas at height with limited space.

            Versatile and provides independence

A major advantage of horizontal safety lines is the fact that they are largely versatile, making them well suited for nearly any job site at any stage of work. A prime example, they are perfectly acceptable to connect to an anchor bolted to a concrete wall on one end, and a beam clamp or cinch-style anchor on the other. You must always remember to adhere to manufacturer’s guidelines.

           Increased worker capacity

Horizontal safety lines can vary in total worker capacity, which is the number of workers that can be connected to the system, depending on whether the application is a fall arrest (where the potential exists for the worker from accessing an edge) or fall restraint (no potential exists for the worker to access an edge).

For two workers in fall arrest scenario, it may not seem like a worker or anchor advantage since there is still technically one worker for every installed anchor, but the fact is that the workers could potentially access up to 100 linear feet along the horizontal safety line, as well as the additional area allowed by their connector stretching perpendicular from the horizontal safety line, all without having to transition between anchors. In fall restraint, on approved horizontal safety line systems, the number of workers increases to four, in turn, doubling up worker capacity on the same two-anchor system.

           Quick and simple deployment

For their flexibility and effectiveness in preventing falls and keeping workers safe at height, it might seem like horizontal safety lines are complicated to use with an excess of moving parts, complex installation procedures or the requirement for specialist engineering - however, this is not the case.

While certain applications may require specialist engineering, the huge majority of horizontal safety lines are easily installed by the user because they are pre-engineered, taking much of the work out of designing a system.

Selecting a horizontal safety line which is a compatible anchor for your substrate; pick the cable or rope horizontal safety line system that best suits your application, and install per the supplied instructions - this will mean no engineer is required. Most systems need some simple assembly using familiar components like wire thimbles, fist-grips, shackles and turnbuckles; whereas, most rope systems come fully assembled and include a built-in, self-adjusting tensioner and carabiners for connecting to the anchors.

Installing Height Safety Systems Is Crucial

First and foremost, the best protection when working at height is to install tried and tested height safety systems. Equipment like horizontal and vertical safety line systems, mounted safety lines and walkways, is the very best way to protect workers from accidents at height. Without these approved systems in place, the safety of workers can easily be jeopardised.

           Inspections

As well as having these height safety systems installed, it’s crucial to have them inspected regularly to ensure they are fit for purpose. By having your height safety systems inspected by professionals, you can reduce the likelihood of accidents occurring.

           PPE

In addition to installing and inspecting height safety systems, workers should always wear the appropriate PPE to reduce the risk of accidents and injury. When employing teams to work at height, always ensure they have all of the PPE they require to do the job safely.

           Never Overreach of Overstep

When climbing a ladder or using height safety equipment, ensure that you never overreach or overstep from the point of safety. Keep firmly secure to any safety equipment and don’t stretch yourself too far when working.

Height Safety: The Do’s and Don’ts of Working at Height

if you work for or run a company which involves work at height, read on for our comprehensive safety guide.

If you work in the building or construction industry then you’ll be aware that there are many important health and safety regulations to follow. While health and safety is vital for any workplace, the nature of these jobs mean that there is often a greater opportunity for accident or injury, thanks to elements such as working at height, operating heavy machinery or working on unstable ground.

There are many trades which involve working at height, from scaffolders to window cleaners, electricians, steeplejacks, mechanical engineers, roofers and many more. All employers in these industries have a responsibility to keep their employees safe, including implementing the correct health and safety training and ensuring that all workers have the right protective equipment. As you might imagine, working at height can be particularly dangerous, but it doesn’t have to be as long as the right safety measures are in place.

There are also many legal requirements in place for working at height, and these ‘do’s and don’ts’ are essential if you want to keep employees safe and avoid accidents in the workplace. With this in mind, if you work for or run a company which involves work at height, read on for our comprehensive safety guide.

Why is height safety so important?

Working at height is one of the biggest causes of major injuries and fatalities, so it’s vital to adhere to the correct height safety guidelines. ‘Working at height’ is defined as any situation where a person could fall such a distance as to injure themselves, if there were no safety precautions in place.

Height safety is important to protect your employees first and foremost, but it’s also important for your business. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is the government agency responsible for enforcing Health and Safety Regulations, and your business can be fined if you’re found to be in breach of any of these rules. A breach of health and safety can cost your business a lot, both financially and in terms of damage to your reputation, so it’s important to adhere to the regulations.

           The Working at Height Regulations

(2005) applies to anyone who works at height and it contains rules and regulations that all employers and businesses must follow. We will run through some of the most common do’s and don’ts for working at height in more detail below.

           Do’s and don’ts

There are several things to consider before commencing any work at height, and businesses are asked to stick to work on the ground where possible. However, there are many situations and tasks where working at height is unavoidable, so read on to find out how to protect your employees.

DO as much work as possible from the ground

Employers or supervisors should assess each job before it begins and do as much work as possible from the ground. Where this is not possible, measures should be put in place to ensure that workers can move safely to and from the area at height.

DON’T overload ladders or your working space

Ladders can be fragile, so consider the weight of any equipment or materials your workers will be carrying before work begins. You should also avoid using ladders for strenuous work or tasks that will take a considerable length of time - keep ladders for light work of a short duration (up to 30 mins).

Ensure that any equipment or products are loaded carefully and in a safe, correct order to your workspace and don’t exceed any weight restrictions for working platforms or scaffolding. Workers should also avoid overreaching on a ladder; hands and feet should keep contact on at least three points at all times to reduce the chances of a fall occurring.

DO ensure all employees have the right protective gear

Personal protective equipment (PPE) is a vital part of working safely at height and employers must ensure that all workers have access to the right PPE. Typical PPE for working at height includes harnesses, work restraint systems, hard hats and horizontal lifelines (made up of lanyards, anchors and hooks).

Suitable equipment and PPE should be determined after a risk assessment has been carried out; this will ensure that you get the maximum protection for each particular job. You’ll also need to ensure that all equipment is used according to the manufacturer’s instructions and that it complies with the most recent British or European standards.

PPE falls into several different categories, including work positioning PPE (consisting of a waist belt/harness, connecting element, hook and anchorage),

           fall arrest systems

(a fall arrest harness, lanyard with energy absorber, hook and anchor) and restraint PPE (a harness, rope, hook and anchorage). It’s important to ensure that each of these height safety systems work well in conjunction with each other and don’t interfere with the safety of each individual system. A good system will ensure a worker is protected from falls which may occur, ensure workers are supported and suspended when carrying out tasks that require both hands, and safely arrested in the event of a fall occurring.

Protective clothing should also be worn, including high-visibility vests or jackets, helmets or hard hats, footwear with adequate grip support and protective gloves and eyewear where appropriate. Workers at height should also avoid wearing clothing which is too loose to reduce the chances of snagging and pockets should be closed with fasteners to prevent items from falling out.

DON’T let anyone untrained work at height

Never let anyone untrained, inexperienced or incompetent carry out any work at height, for both their own safety and that of your other employees. You should ensure that all staff have the knowledge, experience and equipment they need before working at height, and consider implementing regular training sessions to refresh everyone's knowledge.

DO be aware of weather conditions

Poor weather conditions can make working at height more dangerous, so assess the weather each day and consider pausing work at height if the conditions are particularly wet, windy or icy. You may also need different PPE depending on the weather, such as waterproof outer layers with a hood or boots with extra grip.

           DO consider emergency situations

Every company should have a backup plan in case of emergency, and all employees should be aware of emergency evacuation and safety procedures. This includes steps such as agreeing a set procedure for evacuation, the location of first aid kits or fire safety equipment and ensuring that all employees know how to respond to a variety of emergency situations.

           DO inspect equipment regularly

All equipment used for working at height should be inspected regularly (at least once at the start of each working day) to ensure that it’s fit for use before you begin. Areas of work should also be checked each morning to ensure that platforms are stable and free of slip hazards like ice or frost.

Equipment should be maintained to a high standard and any work equipment or PPE should be replaced as soon as it falls below standard.

It doesn’t matter if you're carrying out DIY on your roof or are performing maintenance tasks on atop a tall building, working at height produces a host of risks that other jobs just don’t have to contend with.

According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), falls from height, whether on a ladder or from more extreme distances, remains one the biggest cause of injury and death in the UK. Because of this, it really is essential that you treat the potential dangers of working at heights seriously.

With this in mind, it is now more important than ever that teams take working at height seriously in order to prevent disaster. Aside from the moral obligation to protect you and your team, a fall from height can lead to costly litigation and job losses which could completely halt your business.

While there are a host of rules and regulations that are set out by HSE, there are a few things you need to remember whenever you’re considering working from height in order to get you started. For starters, planning is everything when it comes to height safety. A competent person with knowledge and experience of planning working at height needs to be in charge of this process.

A quality planner will ensure that, where working at height isn’t necessary, it isn’t done or is at least minimised to reduce the danger of falling. They will also provide teams with the equipment required to maximize safety, looking to cover ‘collective’ protection as well as ‘personal’ protection.

Working At Height: Improving Height Safety In The Workplace

The importance of height safety training and equipment can’t be overemphasized.

According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) 35 fatal workplace fall from height-related incidents occurred in the UK in 2017/2018, an increase of 40% from 2016/2017.

The number of Work at Height safety breaches recorded on construction sites also saw an increase of 13%, according to the Building Safety Group (BSG).

Whether these figures are due to employers becoming slack with height health and safety, more people working at height than ever before, or a multitude of other factors, the importance of height safety training and equipment can’t be overemphasized.

Risks

           Falling

The obvious risk is falling, and many people do not realise that falls from as little as 2 metres can be fatal. Safety harness and height safety equipment are imperative to anyone working above 1.5m. The number of deaths from falling is relatively low in the UK, but injuries such as broken limbs and muscle damage are frequently recorded as a direct result of falling.

           Falling Objects

Not securing objects at height or materials stored on a fragile surface are at risk of falling and injuring people below. Sectors such as roofing and the construction industry are particularly important as objects not secured are at risk of injuring members of the public once workers have left the site. Methods should be put in place to secure objects stored at height and appropriate fall arrest systems should be installed in the event of an emergency.

Best Practices in the workplace

As a legal requirement, employers must ensure risk assessments are carried out prior to any work beginning. Appropriate equipment, such as ladders and platforms, should be regularly maintained and inspected.

           Risk Assessments

A risk assessment is required to be carried out in any work environment to understand which areas offer the highest potential risks.

Risk Assessments should highlight all potential hazards and indicate the necessary precautions required to prevent injury. Action should then be taken to implement these methods and regular checks should be carried out to ensure that any changes to an environment are addressed with new safety precautions.
